Southern California Naturist Association

Many of the members of the former Elysium resort have joined together to form an entirely new organization, the Southern California Naturist Association. This group carries the memories and many of the philosophies of the old Elysium club. It is determined to take this relaxed and inclusive approach to clothing optional living to many new friends in Southern California.

SCNA has no legal or organizational connection to the Elysium Institute, which sponsored the Elysium Fields resorts in Topanga Canyon and, later, in the mountains above Malibu. The successive closing of those two facilities has convinced SCNA leadership that a more broadly based and democratic approach to association is needed for success. SCNA will operate as a "non-landed" organization, conducting its activities in a wide variety of locations.

SCNA Activities

SCNA had a busy schedule of events for members and guests from the Spring through the Fall of 2002. An archive of past issues of the SCNA Newsletter is maintained on the club's web site, and gives an idea of the range of sponsored social activities. A full schedule of even greater variety is planned for 2003.

In the final weeks of 2002, the SCNA Board invested time in two areas that are important to the Association's future growth: incorporation as a California non-profit corporation, and expansion of SCNA's public information and educational activities. Clothing-optional activities will continue to be prominent in 2003. Added to these will be opportunities for like-minded members and friends to associate in "textile" places, and to attend education and arts events that may have special interest. The Association will also provide more printed and electronic materials about clothing-optional and clothes-free living, current naturist and nudist issues, and public resources and challenges.

The complete text of the Southern California Naturist Association's original Press Release of April 15, 2002 , describes the goals of the organization in greater detail.
